The Guardian reported Tuesday During his acceptance speech for the honorary Palme d'OR—Cannes’ most prestigious award—from actor Leonardo DiCaprio on the first day of the festival, Robert De Niro unleashed a scathing critique aimed at the 47th President of the United States. De Niro specifically targeted the funding cuts implemented under the Trump administration concerning federal backing for arts and humanities initiatives. He contended that these sectors play a vital role in resisting right-wing autocratic regimes globally.
