Kermit the Frog has jumped into the spotlight at the University of Maryland to deliver a message of unity and collaboration to the graduating class of 2025.

The beloved puppet character, famous for his occasionally pessimistic yet fundamentally optimistic perspective, offered encouragement. graduates to manage the ambiguities of the real world by collaborating with each other.

"Here’s some advice for you, if you’re open to hearing what a frog has to say," Kermit stated.

Instead of climbing over others to achieve your goals, think about extending a helping hand and leaping alongside them, as life becomes more enjoyable when we jump together.

His comments were fitting for the graduating class, with numerous students stepping into an employment landscape characterized by financial uncertainty and encountering a tomorrow influenced by continuous political shifts.

The visit by Kermit to the University of Maryland carried a particular importance.

Jim Henson, the visionary who brought us the Muppets and even Kermit himself, began his college journey at the university in 1951 with a focus on studio arts.

When he was a freshman, he enrolled in a freshly introduced puppetry course and there he crossed paths with Jane Nebel, who would become his future spouse.

In 1960, he completed his studies in home economics.

Henson first crafted Kermit from his mother's coat and a bisected ping-pong ball and the now-famous frog was introduced on TV screens in 1955.

A bronze sculpture of Kermit and Henson, who passed away in 1990, depicts them seated on a bench and is a prominent landmark at the College Park campus.

In a clip revealing the chosen speaker, Kermit was portrayed as an eco-activist, a top-selling writer, a global celebrity, and a promoter of innovation, compassion, and having faith in the unachievable.

His speaker bio dubs him "a luminary of theatre, cinema, and marshland" with the aim to "perform tunes, strike up dances, and bring joy to folks."

"I'm delighted that our graduates and their families will get to experience the uplifting perspective and wisdom of the legendary Kermit the Frog during this significant moment in their lives," stated University President Darryll J. Pines.
